The lady who found Tilly was told there was nothing wrong with her but because she was found out during the day the lady brought her over for me to take a look. I discovered Tilly was completely blind. She now lives happily in an enclosed garden.

Rinari had been accidentally shut in a garage for a while. He was lucky to have been found in time, but others are not so lucky. Please do not leave your shed or garage open after dark as that’s when the hogs wander in.

Beaty fell into a pond that she couldn’t get out of but luckily she was rescued before she drowned. She has swallowed and inhaled water and it took Beaty over a month to recover. Many are not so lucky. If you have a pond please ensure hogs can easily climb out, chicken wire draped from the water over the edge enables them to climb out, any sort of platform or ramp will do.

Chesney was one of the many flood victims admitted in 2007. After the water had subsided the survivors had to eat contaminated food, which of course made them very ill. Chesney survived but how many unknown hogs didn’t? If you wish to encourage hogs into your garden please leave out water (never milk) dog or cat food (not fish based) Please leave food out on a regular basis rather than just now and again.

Kay fell down a deep hole that had no cover so please if you have to dig a deep hole, say for a fence post, cover it up at night. Kay was found in time and suffered no lasting damage. When in your garden, completing your horticultural tasks please be hedgehog aware! They will hide under mounds of garden rubbish that maybe you intend to burn – please check or even move before setting alight. Hogs often have nests in spring under old sheds. Before demolition please check, once disturbed adult hogs will abandon their babies.

Motley came in with a very bad head injury; it may have been caused by a strimmer. Hogs hide by day in gardens and can easily be caught up in garden equipment. It looked very bleak for him but he was a fighter and after many months Motley is now fit and well. As with most other hogs he has now been released back into the wild into an area as safe as we could find.
